Sunset Point is so called because it’s a romantic place to walk to and watch the sun go down over the river in late Autumn, Winter and early Spring.

The name was thought up by Nick Skeens, when he was chair of the Friends of the Riverside Park, more than ten years ago, and who had made a hobby of taking pictures of Burnham sunsets.

It is at the end of West Quay – just walk west (up river) along the waterfront and out of town, past the Riverside Park until you get to the Marina. Then you branch left to a semi-circle of black railings.

There is a proposal to build an outdoors observatory there, which will mark the annual passage of the setting sun from the south shore to north west of Burnham, and will explain how the tides work.
