HMS St Mathew Cup – 2019
On Sunday 1st September, 2019, the HMS St Mathew Cup returned to the Burnham Sailing Club for the fourth time in the past five years. The picture above shows Team Captain Malc Hutchings and his team.
Each year one of the Burnham clubs provides one-design boats to enable the clubs to race each other. There is a draw for boats, and owners are not allowed to sail their own boat.
It was raced this year in a variety of boats – including one 707 (racing cabin cruiser) for each club, one Elite (fast keelboat) for each club, and similarly, one RBOD, one RCOD, and two squibs. Each of the three teams consisted of 21 sailors.
Teams were provided by Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, The Royal Burnham Yacht Club and the Burnham Sailing Club.
The Crouch Yacht Club, sadly, did not compete – because it closed earlier this year.
