This year’s Armistice Day fell on Remembrance Sunday and marked the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The rainy weather broke perfectly on time to bless the assembled crowds with warming sunshine.

Racing yachts on the river anchored off the War Memorial as a mark of respect and, at 11, a gun sounded from one of the yacht clubs as the minute’s silence began.

Later, receptions were held at the Baptist Church and the Council Chamber.

In the evening the Town Beacon was lit in honour of the fallen.

Many thanks to all those who took part in a moving tribute and helped make it happen.

Pictures of the ceremony are below, including the Town Council reception and the beacon event.
